Information Collection and Use
Information Collected Upon Registration: When you create or modify your account on the FoldingStory website, you provide personal information, such as your username, password, and email address. Some of this information, such as your username, is listed publicly on our Services, including on Add and Read pages. Your email address and username are also used to allow other users to find you through our search by email and search by username features. Certain Services, such as reading finished stories, do not require registration. Your email address will be used to contact you when a story you have started or added to has been finished, when a story you commented on has additional comments, when a user follows you, when you receive a private message, to reset your password, and to receive our newsletter. You may unsubscribe from these messages by following the instructions contained within the messages or sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please allow 48 hours for us to process your request.
Additional Information: You may provide us with additional information to make public on your profile page, including information about yourself, your location, your website and your writing style. We may use your contact information to send you information about our Services or to market to you. If you email us, we may keep your message, email address and contact information to respond to your request. Providing the additional information described in this section is entirely optional.
Folds, Stories, Followers and other Public Information: Our Services are primarily designed to help you share information with the world. Most of the information you provide to us is information you are asking us to make public. This includes not only the stories you fold and the metadata provided with Folds, such as when you wrote the Fold, but also the stories you create, the people you follow or the lines you like, and many other bits of information. Our default is almost always to make the information you provide public, but we do our best to provide you with the ability to keep certain information private. Your public information is broadly and instantly disseminated. For example, your Folds are searchable by many search engines and, in the future, may be immediately delivered via our APIs to a wide range of users and services. You should be careful about all information that will be made public on the FoldingStory website, not just your Folds.
Log Data: Our servers automatically record information (“Log Data”) created by your use of the FoldingStory Services. Log Data may include information such as your IP address, browser type, the referring domain, pages visited on the FoldingStory website, and search terms.
Cookies: Like many websites, we use “cookie” technology to collect additional website usage data and to improve our Services. We do not require cookies for many parts of our Services such as reading finished stories. However, cookies are required for proper member interaction with our Services, such as signing up, logging in, and adding to stories. A cookie is a small data file that is located on your computer’s hard disk. The FoldingStory website may use both session cookies and persistent cookies to better understand how you interact with our Services, to monitor aggregate usage by our users and web traffic routing on our Services, and to improve our Services. Most Internet browsers automatically accept cookies. By editing your browser options you can instruct your browser to stop accepting cookies or to prompt you before accepting a cookie from the websites you visit. Disabling or denying cookies from the FoldingStory website may degrade performance of certain Services.

Law and Harm: We may disclose your information if we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation or legal request; to protect the safety of any person; to address fraud, security or technical issues; or to protect the rights or property of FoldingStory.
Non-Private or Non-Personal Information: We may share or disclose your non-private, aggregated or otherwise non-personal information, such as your Folds or the number of users who clicked on a particular link.
Modifying Your Personal Information
