  • And one in the nutcrackers mouth. The Ratking & his minions were expected in this household. Sugarplum fairies patrolled the mantle & even the tree was hung with baited mousetraps
  • that had tantalizing bits of French artisanal cheese. On his cue, Ratking's minions injected themselves with fluoro-green antifromagian serum before storming the Christmas trap th
  • e toys had set up. Prussian tin soldiers tidily bayoneted the mice until the 7-headed rat king confronted the nutcracker. To aid her prince, Marie desperately dug her tiny stiletto
  • heel into the nutcracker's left buttock. "Kill that damned thing, already!" she ordered him. The nutcracker, being more afraid of Marie than his 7-headed rat-king adversary, gulped
  • down a flask of liquid courage then refused to fight the 7-headed rat-king. Marie tossed him out the window. She then went to the barn & came back with the 14-headed cat-plebeian.
  • Marie thought that the 14-headed barn cat, who just got out of rehab, might make good with the victims of previous transgressions by pra/eying for world
  • the cat stopped spooking livestock and eating cattle thieves. Instead the 14-headed barn cat took up in world domination, a fresh new hobby.
  • Two centuries later, a man stumbles upon a carving in the ground. He sees the image--a 14-headed cat, each head devouring a human whole. "Dear God, what happened here," he breathes
