  • Close the door, the mother shouts at the children running outside. Don't let bugs, the heat, the cold in.

  • Or any of the other horrors out there, she adds silently.

    6
  • Or any of the unspoken terrors, she added wordlessly,

  • In her never to be humble opinion she would have to face her terrors. She lifted her giant convenience store fly swatter and smacked them. Success! ...or

  • so she thought, until one of the little bugs began to twitch. Maybe she should have invested in a luxury brand swatter. Her accuracy was great but her kill rate stats were about to

    However...Det. Manatee's son--Det. Manatee--will carry on in his Father's stead...

Huh. Somehow I'd hoped this site encouraged actual collaboration rather than people just yanking a story in an arbitrary direction to amuse themselves. Oh well. Now I know.

It is the nature of the format of the game. Collaboration is hard to sustain when all you have to work with is the previous 180 characters.

I disagree. It is possible if you put an effort into anticipating what went before and building on it. Ofcourse you are blind to the past but you have your literary senses and the fold that was passed to you. The best stories are collaborative, from folder to folder they evolve, and the spark of ignorance about what went before gives it the twists and turns which add the spice.

p.s. Nirgov, I liked your starting fold.

I take your points. Thanks, SW.

As I tend to adhere more to the spirit of the original exquisite corpses and do most of my folds primarily in a pseudo- stream of consciousness manner, I tend to derail collaborations more often than most. But it is a real joy when in spite of that a cohesive story emerges. I know that I tend to end up with the low score on most of my stories but for me it is the enjoyment that I get from seeing what emerges that keeps me coming back again and again. I understand completely the frustration one might feel at having me come in and derailing their story. I do not set out to derail a story but it will happen.

Also, sometimes you can't make head or tail of the previous post you have to work with. Then you can only do your best to try to continue, if you dare. And sometimes that is interesting, too.

It's all muddy water and runny noses in here. But standing in the thick of things with giant flies and impossible odds, sometimes just sometimes you end up with a real gem. Then you have a petite heart attack and a happy braingasm. And you end up waiting to see if it will happen again or if you will just end up with an over excited funny bone tickle. Either way it's all good fun!

    Wow! That really nails it.

and oh, yeah about that runny nose, I took an antihistamine.

Not much to add so I won't. Rebbie said it well.
