She held the paper-thin stone in her hand
-
She held the paper-thin stone in her hand firmly. Putting her weight onto her right knee, she readied herself, imagining the way it would skip easily across the
2 -
lake. It's hard for one person to estimate the number of skips they will achieve when throwing a small stone across some water, however, she was very precise in her prediction.
1 -
She watched as the stone jumped, mesmerized by the water rippling out from each point of contact, slowly disappearing as they moved further away from their starting point.
2 -
She couldn't help but think it was a perfect metaphor for her life. Skipping from place to place, leaving ripples in her wake. She wondered where and when she would finally sink
1 -
. Then, without warning, she sank. Looking down, she realized that she was already up to her waist in quicksand. "I really should have paid attention to where I was walking."
2 -
Fortunately, the quicksand wasn't that deep. She stopped sinking at about neck-deep. Now that the mortal danger was gone, it was actually kinda relaxing. She began to doze off.
2 -
She woke to see the natives dragging her off to their camp which was confusing because they took her to the city and up to a five story hotel.
1 -
Once she reached the camp they made her take part in an ancient tribal dance known as twerking. They twerked for hours on end until someone arrived and told them
2 -
their twerking was amateurish. Sure enough they were completely upstaged by the bizarre gyrations of a bird of paradise and the sychronized ballet by a pair of black-necked grebes.
