"And when the driver said "cabashi" the policeman

  • "And when the driver said "cabashi" the policeman at the window stiffened, briefly, and replied in a digital handshake that I haven't heard in over 32 years. He has to be a sleeper
  • . I got the feeling I was the he soon to be the sleeper. I didn't know what a sleeper was or wasn't but those words, in that order, & in that voice told me I didn't want to be one.
  • Pedestrians tried their best to avoid our little skirmish. Blood trickled into the storm drains along with the rain. For the good of the city, I hoped they cleaned the water well.
  • I mean who wanted to drink bloody water. Gross. Although I'd be quite funny to see them do so.
  • We crept on with the bloody water, waiting and hoping not to get caught. If we could make this happen, it would be legendary! We'd be legends at the school!
  • To make a long story short, suffice to say that we never became school legends. We're still, in fact, serving time in federal prison for our adolescent shenanigans.Maximum security.
  • We tried to become prison legends by pulling on the prison fire alarms every time we passed them, but all we got was solitary confinement. So our teenaged years really were the
  • loneliest years of our existence. We sat them out thinking dark angsty thoughts. The Thoughts begat Evil Presences which picked the locks. Out of solitary we busted, now in our 20s
  • And enlightened after reading the teachings of Zen master bankei. Our first stop was the temple where we took refuge and stayed for fifty years minimum. We became vegetarians.
  • One early morning I felt an opening within like never before. I became the ravenous maw at the root of creation, an insatiable gaping gullet. I feasted in tears. It wasn't enough.
