She had never understood love. Peoples need
- She had never understood love. Peoples need for it. Their inability to exist without a second half. Someone to complete them.
- Valetta stared at herself in the cracked mirror. Aw, who was she kidding? She was damn lonely & no amount of self bravado could change that. She needed a man & she needed one now.
- She called A*MEN & soon a man was sitting in her living room with a bottle of beer staring at her Van Gogh Sunflowers poster. "Would you like another beer with your beer?" Valetta
- wanted more than beer. She wanted a starry night in a cafe with a tall glass of absinthe. She wanted the reaper to appear & cut off the mans ear. Valetta was done peeling potatoes
- she wanted action. She had to make a plan to break out of her boring life. What was that plan? That's for her to know and for you to find out.
- She first rented a loft in SoHo, covered the windows with black plastic bags and proceeded to bring in large wooden crates. We heard her hammering and sawing way into the night
- ingale. We could hear its screeches from two floors down. "Someone has to put a stop to this," I said. I started for the door but Zoe clasped my wrist, her eyes wide. "Unhand me,
- woman! That bird is done for!" Zoe shook her head and put a finger to her lips. I frowned and listened closer. Slowly I began to make out intelligible phrases in the screeches. Zoe
- nodded at the same time I mouthed the question, "Larry Bird?" I couldn't let this happen. Larry Bird was my hero when I was a kid & now he was suffering. Zoe tried to stop me, but
- I couldn't disappoint Larry. "Listen, Mr. Bird" I began, "I know how you're feeling, but don't worry... it all ends now." I embraced him, and slowly slid my knife into his belly.

By the way, you may have noticed my various references to "Valetta" in different stories. Valetta was my favorite aunt...died years ago...but looked and acted just like the Far Side lady who always stood with her hands on her hips. She could cuss like an old sailor. I loved her.

I hope we done her proud. Sound's like she was a heck of a lady. Now to surf for some Farside to end the day...
