I'm not sure, actually. My mom was always a heavy sleeper, so she could just be dreaming of something fun and totally nonsensical. But I think it could be a coma, because she's

lying so still. When I would watch her in the night, matching my breathing with hers perfectly, at least her chest would rise and fall. But now? There's barely any movement. Mom is

sick. She always wanted me to be a doctor, and I never really saw a reason before, but I now understood. As her breathing slowed, mine quickened. She gave me life. Not once, twice.

Certainly, it was at this moment that I decided that I would become a doctor myself. Never was I particularly fond of this decision, but it was my way of asking for forgiveness.
