I remember that Thunderhead. I saw it on two consecutive nights in Sacremento a few years ago. The first night I was heading back to my car when he popped up from behind a sunset and asked me for money so that he could get to Bakersville. I bought it and gave him $5. The next night he jumped out from behind a dark cloud and gave me the same dog and pony show, not remembering me. I offered him my lightning rod but kept on moving.

I wasn't mad about my five but about his forgetting me meant that the ones that were fooled were so many that I didn't stick out. Nothing to distinguish me from any other fool. Was the bell ball that hung at the end of my pointy hat too quiet?

Nay, it was not quiet enough.
