FYI: My grandfather helped to defeat Rommel at Tobruk. The Brits & the Aussies did play cricket whilst waiting for the action. Rommel's army did run out of fuel and many tanks were left abandoned. ANZAC day is on 25 April Below is a link demonstrating all the names and places of the fielding positions in cricket. The 'Silly Mid On' is very close to the batsman hence why you would have to be 'silly' to stand there. Inatick - Glad you pointed out that Rommel was defeated at Tobruk - totally bowled out. I never knew the silly positions were called that because they're silly!

Rather than 'silly' it should be 'suicide mid on' because it is so close to the batsman. The game of cricket is very popular with accountants and statistians who will spend hours examining every detail of the sport in a meticulous fashion.
