After a quick wiki search http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starfish I learned way more than I wanted to about starfish reproduction, but noted their size ranges from 12 to 24 cm. Then I learned on a tattoo forum that the smallest font is at least 1.5cm high, because if it is too small the ink spreads and blurs the tattoo. So estimating that if the letters have to be 1.5 then you need 612 sq cm to tattoo all 3 of those folds. Finding the area of a star is tricky, but I would estimate that it would be half that of if the fish was a square. So Max would be 24 squared over 2, but then it could be tattooed on the back too, so back to 24 squared or 576 square cm. Long story short, you're right that tattoo would not fit on a star fish.

Well, I'm not going to read the reproduction page again, but I don't think they even get pregnant, because they lay eggs. I wonder if the person who originally asked that question was really thinking about getting a tattoo while pregnant or just doing research on behalf of a folding story. Either way, someone should tell her that if she gets a tattoo while pregnant that her baby will be born with the same tattoo.
