felt a sublime woosh of air as it zipped through the open window out over the twinkling skyline of Manhattan. As I glided over Brooklyn Bridge, the carpet threads began unraveling

. It was a race against time. If I could only reach Jenny's house before my carpet gave way. Jenny would know what to do. Jenny always knew what to do. Her house was in sight now.

But my carpet did give way before I arrived. "Stupid carpet," I thought to myself. It was ugly now. Torn and dirty, it would barely do. She probably would not even accept it if I
