Everything began with good intentions, but it ended with a never ending nightmare.

I had been unemployed for six months, you see. The wife was stressed, the kids were hungry...I had no choice, really. So I accepted the temp job for the road crew. Hell was
7 -
other people, true enough, but Purgatory had to be road crew, & the ass-end of Purgatory definitely involved laying asphalt. We lost a guy a week - we were never sure if they quit
7 -
or if they slipped & became part of the road. Asphalted into oblivion. When I married an heiress, Asphalted Into Oblivion was the title of my autobiography. Petulla loved my rough
7 -
towel because it really scratched so good when drying off. I always knew when she used my towel because I could smell her stupid body spray on it. Petulla was a roommate from
7 -
Nowhereville. Petulla favored fruity flavored body sprays, the kind that are meant to mimic delicate floral scents, but really reeked of mass-produced chemicals.
8 -
The non-GMO-ed people who had to endure the wake of Petulla's artificially fruity yet fragrantly deadly sillage dropped dead within moments, which was unfortunate because
7 -
this included the guy from the Vegetables-R-Us store who promised to validate my parking. I stepped over his lifeless body and stole his wallet. On my way back to the carpark
7 -
I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around. It was him. What was left of him. He opened his mouth to say something but his breath knocked me out. I woke up
8 -
and held the hand of the one I loved. I knew then everything was going to be all right. Until, I realized I didn't have the rest of her body.

First line fits with last line very well.

Great ending! I am trying to improve on my last folds as it is often hard to resolve a conflict when you aren't sure what the conflict is and have so few characters to conclude with. Perhaps I over think it. I just keep practicing.
